Slim, Athletic Style & Outdoor Readiness
Some adventures are equal parts connecting with friends, having fun outside, and discovering new places. The sleek OUTline GTX is ideally suited to such adventures, with lightweight and flexibility like a running shoe, but enough grip and protection for any trail. Protective mudguard around the base of the foot protects the lateral and medial sides from muddy trails. Anti-debris Mesh upper prevents debris from being trapped between your foot and the footbed. EnergyCell midsole, a high performance EVA foam, provides shock attenuation.

Contagrip Outsole
Contagrip MD is focused on long-term wear. Using the most durable compound, it has a lug pattern that works equally well on both hard and smooth or soft and loose surfaces.

Welded Upper
Stitch-free upper construction provides a smooth, glove-like fit and feel. OrthoLite diecut sockliner delivers comfort and breathability.

GORE-TEX Waterproof
Added GORE-TEX membrane keeps your feet dry from the outside as well as from the inside. Waterproof material remains unaffected by water even when under pressure, completely preventing water from entering the shoe through the upper.

My usual shoe size is 12W. I purchased 12.5W in these shoes because the 12’s seemed a little tight. The opportunity to purchase the half size was an additional advantage of this model. Many other brands seem to skip half sizes after 12.
I probably didn’t need another pair of outdoor footwear, but these shoes were a very worthwhile purchase.
Fit wise, they were just a hair tight, if my "measured" proper fit is 9.5 that's a 10.5 in Nikes or gym shoes, and standardly a 10 if I want to allow a little bit of foot swell as I hike. These in a 10 fit right and just a hair tight, so I'd go half size up from what you'd measure at if you'll be hiking in them – 9.5 was too small.
Wear wise is where this shoe suffered. It lasted me 9 months before the bottoms were flat under my heel and toe box where it hits the most wear. I'd say fit wise, loved them very comfortable and supportive and for a "low" they weren't "too low" like a lot of the newer shoe style hikers. I returned the XA Pro, Pathfinder Mid, and Outbound Prism's for this reason, your foot doesn't get enough support in those below the ankle IMO. The tread on this, like most Salomon, are first class when it's new, but all their new soles tend to wear so fast.
These were super comfortable for sub 7mi hikes without a pack, and daily casual wear, and all the seams and upper area held very well and did well for light water/snow - I really wish these gave me a couple years and I'd buy a second pair in a heartbeat, this color and the olive are a great look, but I've replaced them with X Crest GTX's hoping those soles last longer. The X Crest isn't as casual looking but seems more burley but time will tell. 10 years ago, the Quest GTX had rugged long lasting soles, Salomon please get back on it.

I do have to say, I thought they looked awful in the box, however they look much better once he put them on. They do run small and are very slim, which is why I had to order the 'wide' version. Hoping they'll last the hiking abuse!
Since the shoe is made entirely of man-made materials, there's very little stretch in the uppers. With the thinnest socks I have, the shoe is barely comfortable with the insoles in. For medium or thick socks, the insoles have to come out. I don't have particularly high arches, and I don't think sizing up half a size would help: the lack of space with the insole in is primarily vertical, not longitudinal or in width, as if the designers did not account for the thickness of the insole when designing the shoe.
The good thing is, the shoe has plenty of support and shock absorption, even without the insole. It seems as if these insoles were added as an afterthought, and were not accounted for in the design of the shoe from the beginning.
The materials and construction of the shoe seem to be of high quality. I haven't yet tested them in a storm, but it seems like their waterproofing will hold up; the outer seams seem to be very well sealed.
